Visiting Provence in the Fall / Autumn
There’s something magical about Provence in the fall—especially for writers. The crowds of summer have drifted away, leaving charming villages and sun-drenched landscapes peacefully yours to explore. The days are still long and warm, without the intensity of summer heat, making it ideal for strolling through olive groves, sipping rosé on a café terrace, or writing under a fig tree.
Autumn is harvest season. The vineyards are alive with activity as grapes are picked and pressed, and the hills begin to echo with the sounds of olive picking for fresh, golden oil. Local markets burst with color—think heirloom tomatoes, wild mushrooms, butternut squash, figs, and sweet chestnuts—all inspiring feasts for the senses and your creativity.
Fall in Provence invites a slower pace, deeper conversations, and that perfect blend of inspiration and comfort. At My Provence Chapter, our intimate writing retreats are designed to nourish your creativity and your soul. Whether you're starting a novel or journaling for joy, you'll find the time, space, and beauty you need here.
Come write your next chapter—Provence is waiting.

Figs taste the sweetest in the fall

The golden light of Provence is simply magical.
The 'vendange' which is the grape harvest season takes place between end August and October. Our local vineyard organises every year a communal picking for those who wish to lend a helping hand. After a morning of labour, they organised a delicious lunch with the local wines.

In the fall, the summer greens give way to amber, rust, and gold tones. I shot this photo on my morning run.

I am always amazed of how these large mushrooms sprout along the country lanes. Another find on a autumnal walk.

Olives start to ripen for picking around November / December. My tree gifts us a few kilos every year which we have transformed in the local "Moulin" to make peppery olive oil.

The fruit of our labour from our own olive tree in the garden.

Our lime tree produces juicy fruit in the Autumn.
